Our brain is like the boss of our body, sitting on top like a crown. It was first present in the earliest animals that roamed our planet long before dinosaurs, and over millions of years, it has developed into the most complex thing we know. We’ve only started learning a lot about the brain in the last hundred years or so, but what we have found out is truly mind-boggling.
It’s responsible for everything we think, feel, say, and do. When you remember to tie your shoes, thank your brain. When you feel happy after playing a good game of soccer, it’s your brain registering those feelings of joy.
The human brain weighs about as much as a small bag of sugar but is made up of around 100 billion nerve cells or neurons – that’s about as many as the stars in our galaxy! Each of these neurons can make connections to many other neurons, creating an immense network of connections that’s much more complicated than any computer network.
Also, fun fact, when you’re awake, your brain produces enough electricity to power a small light bulb. All in all, your brain is utterly amazing and is one part of your body that you have got to take good care of!
