Once upon a time, before the magic of cars, people used to move from place to place by foot or by riding animals like horses. Then along came a very smart man named Karl Benz, who invented the first practical car in 1885 in a country far away called Germany. The car, or as Mr. Benz called it a “motorwagen”, had three wheels and was powered by a tiny engine.
Jumping to our time, cars are like our best friends, helping us go wherever we want quickly and comfortably. We use them to go to school, the grocery store, the doctor’s office, friends’ houses, trips, you name it!
Cars come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors ranging from small, shiny red sports cars, to big, tough trucks, to minivans for families on the go. In the heart of every car is an engine that uses gas or electricity as fuel to create the power needed to move the car.
Even though cars let us zoom around anywhere we like, they also need plenty of care and love just like a pet. They need regular check-ups to make sure all the parts are working properly and they must be washed and cleaned to keep them looking spick and span.
Cars have come a long way from Mr. Benz’s three-wheeled “motorwagen”. Today, some cars can even drive themselves, thanks to clever computers and sensors! So the next time you ride in a car, remember that you are part of a magical journey that all started with the ideas of a clever man more than 100 years ago.
