The term ‘couple’ came from the French word ‘couple’ which means two items of the same kind. So, it’s like having two apples or two oranges, only in this case, it’s two people.

So, if you have two friends who really like each other and are dating, you can say they are a couple. It shows that they have a special connection and are together.

A couple doesn’t only need to be in a romantic relationship though. It could be two best friends, or teammates, or partners working on a project together.

But mostly when people say ‘couple’, they mean two people who are in love or have a special romantic relationship. So think of the word ‘couple’ as a simple way to say ‘two of a kind.’

Remember, the most important thing is that these two people belong together in some way.
