An instrument is something that makes music.

Believe it or not, music instruments have been around for thousands of years.

Nobody knows for sure, but some people think that the oldest instruments might have been drums made from animal skins, or flutes made from bird bones.

There are many different types of instruments from all over the world.

Some instruments, like a piano or drums, you play by hitting them with your hands or a stick.

Others, like a trumpet or a flute, you play by blowing air into them.

And then there are string instruments, like a guitar or a violin, which you play by plucking or bowing the strings.

Each type of instrument has its own special sound, which is also known as its “tone”. This is what gives different types of music their unique sound.
