A shark is a type of fish that lives in the ocean.
Sharks are one of the oldest and most powerful predators in the world. They’ve been around for over 400 million years, even before dinosaurs!
They’re known for their sharp teeth and sleek bodies which help them swiftly navigate through the water. Some sharks can have over 3000 teeth at one time!
However, they are not all the same. Sharks come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. The smallest shark is about the size of your hand while the biggest, the whale shark, can be as long as a school bus!
But not all sharks are scary. Some, like the whale shark or the nurse shark, are actually quite gentle and eat tiny creatures like plankton.
Their skin is not like the fishes we usually see. It’s rough and covered in tough scales called denticles, which makes them fast swimmers.
Most sharks are out in the open ocean, but some live in shallow water, near the coast where humans swim. But don’t worry, most sharks are not interested in people.
Sharks play a very important role in the ocean. They help keep other fish populations in check and the ocean healthy.
Sharks are really cool creatures, but they need our help, as many are endangered due to overfishing and pollution. We need to respect and protect these amazing ocean superheroes!
